Fantastic Mallorca Fundraising Cycle

Dan and his dad did a fantastic sponsored cycle ride in Mallorca raising lots of money for our little charity in the process. Thank you so much!

See below for a short account of his adventures:

At the end of April I participated in the Mallorca 312 cycle ride along with my dad, to raise some money for the charity. The ride was set to take in 312km with over 5,000m of elevation all in one day. I managed to injure myself a month before the ride so preparation for the event was minimal to say the least. This made it that much tougher on the day as the sun came out and temperatures rose, the pain did too. Being honest, the worst pain was in the backside, which just is not designed to be sitting on a tiny bike saddle all day. My dad completed the 167km ride, which was no easy feat, with over 3,000m of climbing for him. Following the travails of a great but utterly exhausting day on the bike, I made it to the finish line as darkness had fallen, a mere 14 hours after I had set out. Most importantly over £1,000 was raised for the charity, double the initial target, so hopefully that can provide some much needed funds to put plenty more smiles on the kids’ (and parents’) faces for the year ahead!

Thanks to Chemigraphic

We are pleased to announce that Chemigraphic in Crawley chose us as their company charity and raised a magnificent sum of £270 for us.

One of our committee members, Amanda, met the team and collected the cheque.

Thank you to everyone at Chemigraphic!!!

Group Holiday at Easter - ONLY ONE UNIT LEFT

Following last year's successful group holiday to Haven in Dorset we are organising another group holiday, this time to Haven near Chichester

This is a five star caravan park and we have organised a HUGE £100 discount for our members and we have secured a number of three bedroom deluxe caravans

It is a great time to relax and kick back with other members. The adults can chat and the kids can play together making and renewing friendships with other deaf children.

Caravans are priced at just £247 for four nights. We will be going away from Monday 4th April to Friday 8th April 2016

The British 10k London Run to Raise Funds - We did it!

On Sunday in rather cooler weather, than of late, our team with 24,000 other runners set of to do the London 10k.

Two of the team had never run 10k before so it was a big challenge to complete the course. We did all make it round with Alice Pointing finishing her first 10k in an amazing time of 68:39.

It was a fantastic team effort on a lovely day, with thousands of supporters lining the route and cheering us on.

The fundraising total is still going up, currently over £650 with gift aid included, so it is a big thank you to everyone for supporting us.

Paultons Park Trip

Around 40 of us took a coach to Paulton's Park which is a brilliant family theme park in Hampshire

Everyone had such a great time going on all the different rides. With Peppa Pig World for the little ones and coasters and log flumes for the bigger kids there was something for every one.

Days like this are a great way to meet other families and for our kids to make new deaf friends

By the end of the day everyone couldn't wait for the next trip!

Some quotes from our members

"It was amazing to see how well the children interacted with each each other, this was the first time my child has mixed with other hearing impaired children."
"We would never of been able to give our child this experience, and the added bonus of having a coach laid on."

These trips are heavily subsidised by the group to give our kids great experiences so why not come along to our next one!

The British 10k London Run to Raise Funds

Chuckle Brothers Trip

Another fun filled trip to the Chuckle Brothers at the Hawth in Crawley. This has become an annual trip which is always enjoyed by all

Nearly 40 of our members attended this year's show with the Chuckle Brothers doing their version of the Wizard of Oz.

There was slapstick and old time gags aplenty. Here are some quotes by members:

"I loved the bit with the cucumber and the water pistols"
"It was so funny when he poked him in the head with a sword"
"I liked it when they threw stuff into the audience"

Easter Group Holiday

Over Easter 14 families from our DCS went on a group holiday together in Dorset. It was an ideal opportunity for both children and parents alike to get to know each other and form new friendships in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.

It was great to see our children making new deaf friends and playing together. Many of our members are in mainstream and so do not get the opportunity to mix with other deaf children in this way.

There was swimming, beach play, arcades, fossil hunting and much more besides.

Everyone had a really good time and we are all looking forward to organising another holiday next year.

If you didn’t come this year then please consider holidaying with the group next year. We all had such a great time.

Panto 2014

The weekend before Christmas 40 members went to The Hawth in Crawley to see the amazing pantomime Sleeping Beauty

Everyone had a great time at this lavish performance starring Stephen Mulhern from ITV and Cat Sandion from CBeebies

The show was jam packed with laughs, fun and audience participation. Here are some quotes by members:

"This is the best panto I have been to."
"I laughed and laughed"
"My best bit was with all of the splashing water"

Everyone left wanting more so we will have to make plans for Jack and the Beanstalk next year!

New Website

To coincide with the panto and just in time for Christmas we are pleased to announce that the new group website is officially open. Please take time to look around and give us your feedback.

This is just the first phase of the development with more features coming as quickly as we can do them.

New Logo Competition

To come up with a new logo it was decided to have a competition amongst our members to design something that could be used on the website, on leaflets and forms, on posters and clothing. In fact something that could be used everywhere and would epitomise the new friendly face of our group.

We received lots of entries and the winner was announced at our recent Christmas Party.

Amber Niner's design was chosen which has now been formally created from her initial sketch by LogoLogo Ltd in Brighton

Look out for the new logo as it gradually appears on our stationery
